Severe Burn Injuries

Helping You Recover After a Burn Injury

The effects of a burn injury can be multi-faceted. Not only are burn injures extremely painful, they also run the risk of becoming dangerously infected. What's worse, injury victims are often left with disfiguring scars that are constant reminders of the accident that caused them.

At Westmoreland Patterson Moseley & Hinson L.L.P., we help burn injury victims seek the compensation they need to recover physically and financially after an accident. We are especially sensitive to the fact that burn injuries are traumatic injuries that have physical as well as emotional effects.

The Anatomy of a Burn Injury

Burn injuries are categorized by degree. A first-degree burn affects the top layer (epidermis) of the skin. A second-degree burn affects the epidermis, as well as deeper layers of skin (dermis). A third-degree burn destroys the epidermis and dermis, and can also damage underlying tissues, nerves, and bone.

Skin burns are extremely painful because they damage nerves. In third-degree burns, victims may actually feel less pain because nerves are completely destroyed. Since the skin is the body's natural barrier to germs and disease, injury victims are at risk for suffering serious infections.

Burn injury victims often require extensive medical care. Many require skin grafting to replace the skin tissue. Some may require therapy to deal with the emotional effects of the injury.

Our law firm will help you get the compensation you need and deserve for your injuries, current and long-term medical costs, lost wages, and other damages caused by your accident.
