‘I’m frequently asked,’ says Workers’ Compensation Attorney Thomas W. Herman of The Law Firm of Westmoreland, Patterson, Moseley, and Hinson in Macon, GA, ‘are there any magic words I have to use to provide my employer notice when I’m hurt on the job?’
Short answer is no.
All you have to do is make your employer aware of a work-related injury that you think may be related to your job, but you must report it within 30 days of the injury under Georgia law. In fact, you don’t even have to say it may be related to your job. Really, all you have to do is tell them you have a work-related injury that is impacting your ability to work. Under Georgia law, that constitutes notice and you’ve satisfied that part, though including details like the date and circumstances of the injury can help ensure clarity.
