Six graduating high school seniors in Houston County, Georgia were awarded $500 each by the Houston County Bar Association for their college expenses. Westmoreland Law’s own personal injury attorney Philip Potter is the Treasurer for the Houston County Bar Association, and he played a key role in making these scholarships possible.
This year, the scholarship applicants were asked to write on the theme “Your Voice, Your Vote, Our Democracy.” Potter was on the committee of local lawyers that selected the winners.
Potter said in a statement to the Houston Home Journal:
“We are blessed to have a great group of dedicated and caring attorneys in Houston County. Each year our scholarship program is made possible by donations of both money and time from our members, and without their support, the scholarship program would not be possible.”
Typically, the scholarship winners are given their award money at the annual Law Day celebration, but this year’s event was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Instead, they’ll receive a check in the mail.

At Westmoreland, Patterson, Moseley & Hinson Legal, we believe it’s important to not only invest in our community, but also in the bright minds of the future. That’s why we run our own $1,000 scholarship essay contest every year.
We are proud to be a small part of helping these graduates continue their education.
